Things to do in Calhoun County |
|
Fishing |
|
There are numerous boat ramps and bait shops in the area. Perhaps
the largest fishing attraction for this area is the fact that when
compared to other areas on the Texas Gulf Coast, Port
Lavaca/Calhoun County offer superb fishing with relatively
un-crowded conditions.
|
Home of the largest and deepest
bay system on the Texas Gulf Coast, Port Lavaca and Calhoun
County have much to offer the fisherman. Whether your
interests are bluewater offshore fishing or
drifting/wading/kayak fishing in the back bays and estuaries,
this area has it all.
Port O’Connor offers a short run to the
offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico and there are numerous
oil rigs and offshore platforms within a short distance of the
Jetties. If you fish offshore in search of Marlin, Sailfish,
Tuna, etc., the 100 fathom curve swings in closer to the coast
here than most other areas. Calhoun County bays include West
Matagorda, Lavaca, Keller, Carancahua, Espiritu Santo, and San
Antonio bays. All the local bays abound with Trout, Redfish,
Flounder, Tarpon, Shark, Pompano, Gafftop, Whiting, Drum, and
Jack Crevalle.
